Mark Shuttleworth, the founder of canonical has just written on his blog about the discussion that how the developer of Ubuntu named 11.10 as “Oneiric Ocelot”. The name Oddball Octopus was almost decided because since the Ubuntu was conceived and Osculat Orangutan was mooted to because of its welcome nature of the Ubuntu community.

The ocelot, which is basically a cute wild cat, was finally decided because it represents the discipline that will be needed to drive innovation, technology and skills to Ubuntu 11.10.
