Microsoft begs User to Stop Using IE6

Microsoft has launched a countdown site (IE6COUNTDOWN) for Internet Explorer 6, to track how many people are using Microsoft’s 10-years old IE6 version.

With near to IE6 completion, Microsoft said its time for IE 6 fans to say bye bye to the trusted friend that clings to life despite being superseded by three generations of the Web browser. “C’mon IE6, it’s time for a modern Web, so nice knowing you and all that but a bye,” Steve Clayton, director of the cloud strategy for Microsoft.

IE6 COUNTDOWN

The ie6countdown site says that a total of 12% of the worldwide users were still using IE6 to surf the internet. Asia is one the top of the list where this browser is used the most. China leads Asia by more than 34% of the total internet users followed by 10 % by South Korea, India, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, and Taiwan.

Microsoft said that they will continue with the countdown until Internet Explorer 6 usage falls below 1%. As many people are still using this outdated browser so Microsoft is still providing support to its IE6 with the older technology. In the meantime, they also have to keep a pace with the younger browser to move the rest of the Web to HTML 5.

HTML 5, is the core markup language for Websites, the best features of the new technology are the ability to play video on the page without the need of the proprietary plug-ins.

Microsoft is also planning to upgrade IE6 to Internet Explorer 9, the release candidate for Internet Explorer 6 was just started shipping from February and scheduled to launch its final version before the end of this year.

The people should really try to keep up with latest technology. IE9 RC comes with default hardware acceleration. Feel sorry for those still on IE6.
